Question Bored busters for rats?

Hey anyone got some great cheap ideas on things i can give to my rats to cure them being bored,i let them out at least twice a day but when im asleep i hear them going crazy or if i walk by the cage they look so sad and bored.I bought them some chew toys and stuff like that but they dont pay much attention to anything but wanting to get out and run or being stuck to me 24'7 if they could. Thanks for any help

Mine like empty (or full) kleenex boxes to chew on, bird toys and ping pong balls. Another treat/toy that will keep them busy - string cheerios (or other treat) on some thread and hang it from the cage. They will go nuts trying to get all the cheerios off the string and it'll keep them busy too. Lots of crunching though.

You can also put treats into an empty toilet paper roll and stuff the ends with tissue paper. They will have to figure out how to get to the treats.
