Do rats hiccup?

I've noticed lately Brigsby has been having hiccups (or what sounds like it) every once in a while. It mostly happens when he's sleeping. To try to explain further its kind of like the noises a dog makes when they dream and you can see them trying to run in their sleep, but not so loud.
It kind of worries me, though. Any suggestions?

Not an expert here, but seeing as nobody else commented im gonna go ahead and suggest that this is common symptom of upper respiratory infection? it happens alot in rodents like mice and rats when they are exposed to pine/cedar shavings seen in pet stores.im sure there are other causes to RI but this is probably most common....ummm,see a vet.Yeah-your safer going to the vet if your in any way worried! good luck and let us know how the little one makes out!

Oh, hiccups was the question....i think they can hiccup but its not audible to the human ear..?? please dont quote me!! haha,i know there are many ratticle experts here

Rats do hiccup, but it should be silent, the stand/crouch and rhythmically jerk forward, just like hiccups.

When there is a sound with hiccups you are looking at scarred lungs or an impending URI.

When a rat makes noise in its sleep its got a respiratory issue, most likely a URI...he needs a vet.

To the world you are only one person, to your rat you are the World

My rat hiccups a lot because he has breathing problems and he will have to be on Baytril for the rest of his life
Other than that he'll be fine, don't let it worry you to much, Good luck!!
