To get another rat ?...

Ok, I have not posted any updates in ages.
But this is my current situation. I still have one of my original rats, Constantine who is now 40months. Two years back, after Skrat died I got Doodles as a friend for Constantine. Now Doodles has passed from a sudden decline in health and Constantine seems to still be fine. Im taking her to the vet today to look at her ear, she seems to have an infection. I feel bad bc I would like to get her a companion but at her age Im afraid that any new potential introductions could be fatal since the new comer could have respiratory issues that she could catch. What would you guys do? Does anyone have a similar situation as mine?

When Smokey passed away, I only had Bloo left, he was quite old by then, and I was told that because introductions can be a little stressful, it is best not to bother, a new friend will obviously take time to socialize fully with you and Constantine, and there is also the fact that they may squabble a bit as they get used to each other, of course, there is the chance that there will be no problems, but to be sure, I don't introduce new friends to old, I would just make the most of the time I get with my old friend, I never regretted it!

yeah I agree, I think Im also worried about giving her a respiratory infection more than anything..too risky
