Getting Whiter...

Well.. I have an agouti mouse named Applecheeks. She is product of one of my breedings... her mom was Spice, a cinnamon and her dad was Monterrey Jack, a lilac. After a couple of months, Applecheeks started developing white "variegated" markings.. and they have been spreading around her body. Monterrey had some on his back, I always thougt that it was some mismarkings or something... and his markings never spread. Does anyone have any information on this type of markings? Here are pics of Applecheeks:

Before she had any markings:

When the first markings started developing, it started on her cheeks (which made the name Applecheeks even more fitting!!!)

Today:

The ones that Monterrey had:

So... what does everybody thinks?

Interesting...I know ferrets will actually turn white with age -- maybe that's happening with the mouse as VR said? Btw, applecheeks is the best name ever hahah

She was born on may 3, 2006, so she's not a year old yet. She started getting white around september/october of last year...

have you ever heard of "husky" or roan rats? they are born usually one color with a bit of white (maybe a blaze and a white belly, like a berkshire) but as they age, they become whiter and whiter, until they're almost pure white at the end of life.

maybe it's a similar gene in mice?
