Harvest Mice (Micromys minutus)

I own some fancy mice and during the course of my research I discovered the European harvest mouse.

By and large I am not interested in playing with or training my mice. I really do like to observe them. From my research the type of mouse I need is a Micromys Minutus.

They like to be left alone, they don't produce much stink, and their cage needs cleaned out every couple months. I also prefer their look to that of the fancy mouse. Does anybody know where I can find harvest mice inside the USA or know of a similar breed of mouse that I should look for?

check out: fancymice ----dot--- info slash harvestmice.

Also if you know of any great resources about being a mouse owner on the web, I would appreciate it. This includes sources of mice and any other item associated with them.

Make sure that they're legal in your state. I would also check out zebra mice and African spiny mice. I don't have any experience with harvest mice so hopefully someone else will chime in about them .

Those look pretty cool. Any idea where I can find a breeder?

No one has chimed in on the harvest mouse. My prospects are looking grim.

Have you mentioned where you are located?

I have heard awesome things about spinies, and I do like the natal rats...except they are supposedly vicious little beggars to handle. Mine isn't, she is sweet as can be, but from what I understand that is rare

Here's the forum I joined

I am from Kentucky. I saw that forum, but didn't join because it was UK based and I didn't think I could get any help there. But you're right, I should check into it.

PS - This forum's no link rule is stupid.

There's also the Funmouse forum...google it A lot more breeders than the UK one, which is more rescue oriented.
