My pet rat Whitter has brown lumps on his tail. Starting from the top (bum area) going about 1-2 inches down the tail. They are only on the underside and at first I thought it was poo. But I have bathed him twice and rubbed them, but they are not going away. So either it is well stuck on poo or something else!!

Could anyone help and let me know if he needs a vet, or what I should do for him? Thanks very much.

I have no idea what it could be, but I would call a vet right away.

Can you take some pictures?
How big are they?Do they look like a cut/wound?

It could be nothing, rats are clean animals...BUT the tail is one thing they don't spend alot of time cleaning and I have had some rats with very dirty tails and would need my help to clean their tails.

I agree with Lisa, it might just be a dirty tail. I've tried unscented baby wipes and they didn't even begin to take off the dirt. Guess all my ratties are getting baths.
