House Mouse

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I do not keep pet mice, but I'm an animal lover and had a few questions.

This morning, I caught my cat cornering an adorable little mouse. My cat had scratched his head and caused him to bleed a fair bit. I caught the mouse in a container and gave him a cracker. He seemed fine. I know when it comes to people, head wounds bleed a lot and seem worse than they really are. Not sure if this applies to mice, but I would love to know!

I set the little guy free in my closed off attic because it was -10 here last night and I couldn't bring myself to put him out in the cold. I checked on him this evening, and he was no longer in the container and had wandered off into the attic.

So.. any thoughts? Do you think he will survive? My fiance wants to keep him as a pet. This is unlikely to happen, but I still hope the little guy was ok.

It's hard to say if the mouse will live or not, it all depends on how deep the wound was and if your cat gave it to much of a scare. Mice do die from stress quite easily sometimes.

I wouldn't suggest trying to keep it as a pet though, wild creatures don't do well in captivity as they are not used to being handled by humans usually die shortly after. If you want a pet mouse they sell lots in the pet stores
