Ok, so now I'm reading that rats get lonely if they live alone. Does that mean I need to get another one? Tee-hee.

I think that as long as you give her enough attention, toys, and clothes she'll be okay.

If you give her lots of love and attention she will be fine and she will bond more with you so you shouldn't really need to get her a friend unless you really wanted too I kept a rat on her own and she lived to be 3 years old so i wouldn't worry too much

Well she is sleeping in her shoebox. Sorry. I can show you some pics of the cage if you want. But I'd rather wait until she comes out.

Just want to comment on the lone rat thing.

You really should get her a buddy...while she probably won't *die* from being alone, they can develop behavioral problems and become aggressive if alone. I actually think they bond *more* with you if they have a friend, because they won't be so afraid. It's like if you were meeting someone for the very first time, you would probably feel 100% more comfortable if you were with a friend rather than alone.
Here is a slightly long article on why two rats are better: http://www.rmca.org/Resources/apair.txt

Anyway...congrats! You'll soon realize that they are such brats.
And just something to throw in...if you feed her this food, she will love you forever. http://www.ratsrule.com/diet.html It's really good for them.

I suck at names, sorry.

I'm thinking about getting her a buddy. I just need to find the right one. I want a sweetie like her (even though most of them are sweet). Will they get along ok if I wait a little while? I actually looked at some at Petsmart tonight but they were all scratching themselves and it didn't feel right. I don't know. I'd think I'd rather get a rescued one or something. Hmmm, the link to the site you gave didn't work.

Lizz thanks!

It'll be fine if you wait a while. And sorry if it sounded like I was jumping down your throat...I'm just so used to people who refuse to listen.

Can't wait to see pictures.

Congrats! I am sooooooo happy for you! I don't know much about rats since I have been a mouse fancier for a while now.

However, I am an expert at names! hehe, so here are a few I thought out for you:

Brandie (American, means Sweet Nectar)
Mora (Spanish, means Sweet Berry)
Rianna (Welsh, means Sweet Basil)
..I stuck with the sweet thing here cuz you call her Sweetie a lot, hehe..

Jeneva (means White Wave)
Vianca (means fair)
Chantrea (Cambodian, means Moon)
Chloe (Greek, means blooming)

LOL! I think that would be enough for her and a buddy!
Congrats again!
