Question I think my mice are bored...

I try to spend as much time with them as I can, but some days I am really busy and I feel like they are bored in their cage. Right now they have a wheel, toilet paper tube, and nest area. Since I no longer have a hamster, I have two spare bar cages and I was thinking about putting them in there every once in awhile just for some fun (and I know how much they love to climb!) I am not really sure if I should make some toys to put in their cage...? Any suggestions?

it usually looks much like this, but rearranged differently every week.

My rats didn't use our wheel at all so we took it back. As far as toys to use, I'm not really sure. We have about the same in our cage.

Mice love their wheels,unlike rats.
So the wheel is fine. You can add some ladders, tubes and other things like that.I used to have some smooth rocks or a brick (all boiled to clean them) in my mouse cages.Tissue boxes are good too.

You could use those bird rope perch things and string it across the cage to make a bridge. You could make hammocks

Wine racks are great too
I also seen someone tie different sizes of fabric together and made like a hanging climbing frame, they attacted it to the top of the tank by tieing it and then letting it hang down.
I think swapping them into different cages for a while each day would be great! would let them have different things to do!

My mice are on the wheel 24/7!!

Thanks everyone for ideas! (: I think I will try to make some kind of climbing thing for the cage, maybe a hammock in the corner with nothing in it...I still want the cage to have running room for them!

So I have decided to try to make a hammock!! Has anybody ever made a corner hammock?...Better yet one for an aquarium? I am going to use clips and fleece because I think my mice will really enjoy the snuggliness. (Haha nice word I just made up) And if they chew it up I will be out a few dollars and make a new! Thanks for any advice!

You can buy suction cups for the side of the tank. Try a climbing rope and maybe some funny colored or tissues in a corner. If you see something funny shaped just throw it in (long as its safe to chew). Dont try to be neat. Just be messy and crazy. The more busy and climbing stuff a mouse has the happier they are.

I've sewn a corner hammock before but one that is more of a no sew might be easier.

Just cut a triangle to fit your tank out of fleece and sew some suction cups on.

I made hammocks for my rats out of old clothing and I had cage clips which I hung them up with. But I have also used those cable tie things.

The key to mouse happiness is complexity. Give the more tunnels that go in different directions, toys, houses, balls...make their environment change to stimulate them mentally. Also, added space is good too..the bigger the better, they will be happier as they love to roam.

Just steal an old washcloth from somewhere for the hammock! Suction cups sound good, except I could imagine the mice chewing on them. But worth a try.

I'm working on a new siggy! So you'll just have to look at this text until then.

They have suction cups at wal*mart. In the hardware area. And they are four for about a dollar and some change.
