Unhappy I think my mouse has cancer

Hi everyone.

I have 4 mice. The oldest is mother of two of the others, and I think she's about 11 or 12 months old. Yesterday I noticed a lump on her side, around the 'armpit' area of her right front leg. It is about the size of a pea. It doesn't seem to hurt her and doesn't stop her running around and eating like normal. Does this sound like cancer? I had two rats before and one of them died of cancer, and I know rats get it a lot but is it the same with mice?

If it is cancer can mice be treated for it? I don't know if maybe they're too small for operations and stuff. She isn't suffering with it at the moment and I don't know if it would be kinder to put her through an operation or to leave it until it starts making her sick and then put her to sleep. She is not very tame so going to vets and having surgery and everything would probably really freak her out. I don't really know what to do

well it might not be cancer....it can be an abscess or cyst.you should probably call the vet and go there and have him/her check it out.it would be pretty easy to get rid of it if it's recent,so just check with your vet

Just to update on this. I took Penfold to the vet (and she didn't even wee on him, I was so proud, lol). He said he didn't know what it was but it should be removed so I left her in to have an operation. Then he phoned me later to say that when they had gone to operate he couldn't find the lump! He thinks it was a cyst and that it ruptured when he was poking around at it in the consultation. So all they did was knock her out and wake her up again and then I went and got her, thankfully they didn't charge me for it. She still looks lumpy, I think cos the skin is stretched, but it doesn't feel hard like before. He said it will probably re-form and then I'll have to take her in again, but she is still acting totally normal so that's all I care about for now!

So a happy (but weird) ending for now
