Ok what is the best food to give to a mama nursing 13 babies???? She never leaves the bed just nurses her babies she moved the bed to by the food pan so she just eats and drinks from her bed and is only out long enough to go potty. I am worried she is to skinny for a nursing mama. I am off to research rat and babies. She was left in the cage with a male so i hoping they are not like mice and will breed back to back as soon as the have the babies.

They are like mice and will breed back to back.

Mom needs foods very rich in protein. I usually feed our foster moms boiled egg, some small pieces of boiled chicken, and a wide variety of fresh veggies to help her calorie-wise. Rats are good moms and she will likely do her very best to keep the babies alive. Make sure they're temporarily in an aquarium so that there's no draft and they can't wander out of the nest and get caught in the bars.
