Exclamation Male=female Emergency!!!!!!!

*panic attack*
so today when I introduced the new ratty to Pudge for a little while I noticed that he kept trying to mount him, so I took Pudge away and blamed it on puberty.
Back in his cage, Pudge was being overly submissive with Ralphie (he has fully developed down there whilst I thought it was just taking a little longer with Pudge). After this kept going on, I decided to force Pudge over to look at his underside, Im pretty sure he wasn't sexed right now!
So this means that Pudge (now Ginger) is most likely pregnant while she's just 6 weeks old. When I first got them I inspected them both and from my experience (which I have a ton of with rodents) they both looked like males and the guy told me they were too after he checked.
I feel so so so bad, I want to cry....scratch that, I am crying!!!! Is she gonna be okay? I separated them but I'm guessing the damage has been done....
what should I do? I took all precautions just so that this wouldn't happen.

I wouldn't worry - mounting is normal behavior for animals.

It's till possible that he/she's a male because they will still mount each other. Good Luck though

Pudge is definitely a girl though.... ):

how would a pregnancy affect her being so young?

E-spay is a great idea. A pregnancy would be extremely hard on a girl that young.

It's an emergency spay. If it's early enough in the pregnancy they can spay her, removing the uterus as with a normal spay, and aborting the litter. She wouldn't have to give birth so young and she'd also be able to stay living with the males since she couldn't get pregnant again. It also has added benefits of preventing mammary tumors later in life.

As far as cost, you'll have to contact a vet. It would be somewhat significant as it is a surgical procedure.

ohhhs okay, what would happen if she had them, she'd be around 9 or 10 weeks old.
I think it might be too late.

The only way to know if it's too late is to ask the vet since you don't know how far along she is. No one can say for sure what will happen if she has them, but it's definitely not a good position for her to be in. Any number of complications could arise for her. She might not take to mothering well at such a young age and you'd be stuck hand-rearing babies. Then after you'd have to either get her spayed anyway or keep her separate and risk future accidental pregnancies if the boys ever get near her.

I would really recommend looking into the e-spay. There are SO MANY unwanted rats in the world and for a girl this young to risk her health bringing more in is just sad.

Okay, I'll look into an e-spay

if she does end up having them, I have all the necessary supplies in case she rejects them, and I'd probably keep them all.

But I took as many precautions as I could to prevent this and am so so sorry.... ): poor Ginger

thank you!

Definitely look into e-spays for all the reasons above, but you also may want to start weighing her (buy a digital scale showing 1 gram increments) every day at the same time and record the weights. We should be able to determine pregnancy by the weight gain.

I had a tiny girl get pregnant on likely her first heat..she was 6 weeks old, tiny, tiny, tiny! I worried so much about her but she was luckily able to deliver and care for her babies, but I would say that most wouldn't do as well.

Sexing for future reference. Pics I took of some rescues.

5 week girl

5 week boy

I don't think I'll be able to get an e-spay, there's one vet in my area, and they don't really deal with rodents :/ lame city

They're separated right now, so hopefully the damage has not been done.
And this week I suppose I'll look into getting her a cage mate.

You should probably wait until you verify she's not pregnant before pursuing a cagemate for her. After all, she could have up to 20 babies.

just wait it out, doesn't take that long to know if she really was pregnant.
My rat louna is female and she was with all her brothers and sisters until 6 weeks old, she could have totally been pregnant when I got her but she wasn't, so there's chances ginger is not pregnant.
