Max died... Jezebel doesn't look so good...

Yesterday Maxi seemed just fine, but last night when I got home to check on him, he was dead. I don't know why, I'm guessing it was just his time, being a feeder, I'm convinced that he wasn't going to live very long anyways, but he was the sweetest mouse i've ever had. he was a great daddy. Jezebel's weight keeps going up and down, she's fat one day, skinny the next. Her spine is now curved, she has a hump back. I am gonna keep taking care of her and loving her until she passes, which I am honestly expecting any day now. Esmeralda is just fine, and now I'm faced with a dilema. I plan on moving out of state in the next year, and I don't want to acquire any more pets, although I fully intend on taking all the ones I have with me. Esmeralda needs a companion. I know that two mice really isn't all that harder to transport or take care of than one, but I still don't know. I either have to get her a companion if Jezebel passes, or find her a new home where she will be with other mice. I really hate rehoming for convenience, I will only do it if its whats best. I don't know what to do...

awwww *hugs* i'm so sorry about your loss let the air settle and if need be, get a mousie friend for her. it's easy and simpler than trying to rehome your girlie. if you can score a young mousie then the intorductions will be easier too

thanks. its hard to look at Jezebel... she used to be such a big strong girl, and now she hardly resembles a mouse, she just looks so deformed. I checked her for growths and everything, and there is nothing. Esmeralda is taking care of her, bathing her and everything. Jezebel is spending most of her time sleeping. I hope that when she passes, it will be peaceful, i don't want her to suffer...

Jezebel died last night. Esmeralda took care of her to the very last minute. She went peacefully, one minute she was there, the next she was gone. Esmeralda was sitting on top of her after she died, it looked like she was trying to give her CPR, it was really weird. Esmeralda is pretty sad now, after I took Jezebel out, she ran around the cage looking for her, and she has been more anxious, like she was before she had Jezebel. I don't see a choice anymore, I have to get another mouse. I just don't know if I should go back to the petsmart where I bought Esmeralda, or if I should look somewhere else... I'm definitely avoiding anyplace that sells feeders, I can't do that again.

i don't plan on moving for at least 6 months, i think thats too long for Esmeralda to be alone. I really don't know what to do... moving two mice in one cage isn't any different than moving one mouse in one cage, but the more I think about it, i don't even know if its a good idea having them in the car that long, I'm in los angeles, moving up to the seattle area. can mice handle that? If that drive seems like a bad idea, maybe I should just rehome Esmeralda now and save the trouble... But I really don't want to unless I have to... hmm...

Actually, only some of those animals are mine, the rest just live in the household and belong to other family members. The rabbits, 1 dog, 1 or 2 cats, and the hamster are mine, and will be coming along. I know the dog and cats will be fine, I think the rabbits will be okay, too. The hamster and the mouse/mice are what i'm worried about the most, because its a long drive, and a lot of stress for such small critters.
