Smile My new mice

I haven't fully decided on their names yet, but it will come to me soon I'm sure. Have had them for a 2-3 days now and love 'em! Two young females. They are so adorable to watch play and burrow around. I have them some toilet paper tubes, some tp pieces, a small cardboard box and some homemade toys I made with hemp (including a climbing rope). They seem to be enjoying themselves and are definitely eating well (a rodent mix from the local pet shop, some budgie bird seed, and the rare occasion of a hand fed rice crispie - they REALLY love those) and drinking normally. Those are pine chips in the tank, not cedar. I took a picture of each one:

I am going to switch to a finer mulched bedding when this bag is out and more is back in stock. I got my mice from a local petshop that breeds their own.

Anyway, those are my new mice, and I love them.

Thanks, Mulder. No need to worry about creating waves, I'm always open for advice. The day I got them the pet shop was out of stock of the good stuff, and just had pine chips. So I went to Wal-Mart as well and lo and behold, cedar chips or pine chips and some very expensive (like 6 dollars for 1/3 of the amount) small bag of paper bedding, and corn cob bedding (which I heard was not good either). I'll be on the lookout for aspen chips at the pet store and get some ASAP. Thanks for telling me!

Oh my.. cuteness overload!

Worked with them more today, and am still playing with them at the moment when not at the PC. My grey one happily runs over to get in my hand now and they both lick on me, lol. They are really sweet.

At one time I had 21 mice. I just lost my last mouse last Thursday. I don't think I'm going to be getting anymore though. I'm quite partial to rats now. You can cuddle with them a little more. And as far as you being open to advice, you really shouldn't feed them seeded food. The reason is because it really doesn't have a very good nutritional value for them, and it doesn't grind their teeth down. I found that out the hard way. You can get lab block, if you have a Feeders Supply around you, for 99 cents per pound. I buy the 50# bag for $27 and freeze it until I need it. One bag lasts me for five male rats about 8 months. It'll last you forever with two female mice. The white one reminds me of my little Moo who was the one who just died.

Thanks! I am going to pick up some better food for them when I get the chance. No one in my town even sells anything besides dog and cat food, so that pet store and wal-mart were the only options I had at the time. When I get a chance to go to Lexington again I should be able to find some quality food. I might have to order some online if I can't find any.

Try theratshop.com or kims ark rescue... Harland Teklad lab block is the best you can find. I just couldn't afford the expense after I got married.

Wow, thank you! Great link! I ordered food and bedding at The Rat Shop. Was actually cheaper (even after shipping) than my local (sorta local - 40 minutes away) pet shop's price on the stuff I had got some of.

Yeah, mine really love to play on the rope stuff. I happened to have had a big roll of natural hemp twine laying around so I just made their own climbing toys with it. I make new ones whenever I clean the tank. They like to play with small pieces of the hemp twine too.

Right now I am greatly missing them since I am on vacation and my grandparents are taking care of them. I call to check on them and they are doing fine, but I still worry they wonder why no one is playing with them much and where I am.

Awww...cute!

I don't have mice anymore...my last ones passed a few weeks ago.I will eventually get more, but not now.

As for seed mixes...depending on the mix,a seed mix is good in a mouse diet. They are not like rats.Rats cannot live off of a seed mix,but a seed mix is better for mice, along with lab block and other things - grains,fruit,veggies...etc.
