My Rat is making a really weird noise

I just got her yesterday and it's the first time I heard it. She also keeps licking her mouth and cleaning her nose. I let her sniff me and touched her stomach and I'm not sure because she wouldn't let me touch her beyond that but it feels a little bloated

Here's a link to the sound:

also the quality is kinda bad but trust me, it might sound a little like it but it's not sneezing.

She may possibly have an RI. Respiratory infection. My rat sounded a little like that and when we went to the vets it was an RI. I would take her just to be on the safe side and most likely get her some meds!!! xx

It sounds like an RI to me as well.
I have had many ratties with RI's and they made sounds like that. You will need to get antibiotics at the vet if it is.

I've been to the vet and they said nothing was wrong with her I guess because she wasn't making the sound right then and there. But I seriously think she is sick because now and then she gets really lethargic and her fur puffs. Is there anything else I could do because the vet won't give me antibiotics.

I think that you should make an agreement with the vet that is- when your rat is making the noise you can take her straight in because if she needs to be seen to, then better to get done as soon as possible no matter what it takes! Not that you dont know that already lol!

Maybe you should get a second opinion.

The same thing happened to me once.
I had a rat with an obvious RI,but when I brought him in (my regular vet was out) the vet I seen couldn't hear his breathing and started asking me if I wanted x-rays and all these other unnessicary tests done. When my normal vet came back, sure enough my rat had a RI and was put on antibiotics.

Is this vet a small animal vet? Many vets that generally do cats and dogs, don't know what to look for in small animals.
