Exclamation Rayray's peeing blood!!??

I've just gotten back from my dads house, from over night and found out Rayray's peeing blood. It comes out in his urine and there's quite a lot. He seems perfectly happy in his cage andwe can't feel any lumps or bumps anywhere. I've read up some stuff on the internet and the only stuff I could find was; a change in diet-to help stop it, mashed bananas and flax seeds. I havent gotten round to the flaxseeds just yet however I have put mashed bananas in and just about to mix some vitamins in with his water, I'm also going to cut down on extras that I feed them (rayray is quite obese). If you know anything about this please help us, and in the meantime if what we're doing doesnt help we are going to take him to a vet...

I also thought I'd add that he has no discharge or porophrine around his eyes or nose, his fur is in tip top condition and his nose is a healthy pink colour, so it's all to do with his urinal area, im thinking maybe it's an infection?

If you are SURE it is blood, you should take him to a vet. Changing his diet will not fix whatever is causing the blood in his urine.

It is vital when witnessing blood in your rats urine, or if your rat shows signs of pain, to seek a veterinarian for treatment.
Now it is also possible that something he has eaten has caused his urine to appear very dark.

Althought not common, rats that are frequently fed a lot of carrots, beets, or red berries in their diets may excrete a reddish color urine. This is called a pseudohematuria. Owners not familiar with this response may mistakenly believe it to be blood. It is important for the owner to note if any of these foods have been included in the rats diet just prior to observing urine that appears red.
If he has eaten these things, cut them out and observe. But as I said, if you are positive that it is blood, please do not wait to get him to a vet.

I've just had Rayray out of the cage and when I went to put him back there was more on the top floor- where I'd gotten him from, so It's actually pepper my other rat, I must have just assumed it was rayray because I always seemed to spot it when he was up, however it could be both of them? Just a minute ago when I was in the middle of writing this, pure blood actuallt did come out of pepper and it was on his underside to, im beggining to worry, the earliet I can get him to a vet would be tomorrow, im so glad you helped me so quickly, thank you!

It's definately blood by the way, and it isn't coming out in his urine, it's just blood now Pepper has got porophrine around his eyes.

Try to take him to the vet as soon as possible that could be many things. He might have an infection inside but only the vet will know.

Well, it could be a UTI, that's very plausible. They sell "Ornacycline" (tetracycline for birds) and Ornacyn (erythromyacin for birds) in most pet shops. you are going to want to double the reccomended dose because rats are much denser than birds, but they are both general antibiotics and pretty cheap. I would go for the Ornacycline myself, but either will work in a pinch. Leave her on it for a week and if there's no change, or if she gets worse, FIND her a vet quickly. Rats deteriorate quickly.

thanks you everybody for your time and help, I found out this morning about when I could get Pepper to a vet and it looks like I'm going to have to wait 'til tomorrow If your wondering, Pepper is alright at the moment, there's not as much blood as yesterday, so what we're doing is helping however I know that it will be getting worse if he's not treated soon, all I can hope is what we're doing keeps him in his wheelchair until tomorrow...
I know that the bet is he will probably be put on a round of antibiotics, so just incase he is, I was wondering if anyone with experiance can tell me how it went or what you had to do with your rats, so I know a little about it.

I just got back from the vet about 20 mins ago. I've been given antibiotics to give to Pepper twice a day for a week, once in the morning, once in the evening (12 hours apart prefrably). The vet gave us 2 seringes and she said he probably has an inflamation of the bladder and if it doesent get better within a week we will have to take him back. Pepper does not seem to like the antibiotics so its harder to give, but we'll manage!
