Exclamation Rescue mouse!

My new mouse.

So I was leaving the zoo, pretty far from it, when I saw this cute little white-and-orange mouse heading towards the busy streets. It did not look like a wild mouse (white and bright orange?) and it would have died in those streets. So I scooped it up, accompanied with a startled bite, and looked at it. It was silky, soft, and well-cared for looking. I didn't want to just leave it to its fate, so I put it in my purse and left the purse more than half open so I could peek in and it could peek out. I took it home and examined it more, I don't know a whole lot about mice (I have a cat and a dog), but it seems to me that this mouse is a girl. She might even be pregnant. I named her Peach like the Prince song, and for her color.
Last night she escaped, because the lid for the tupperware thing I was keeping her in was too thick to cut holes in, and she needed to breathe, so instead I put seran wrap secured with a headband on the top, with holes poked through and widened. She stood on the toilet paper roll I put in there, apparantly, and chewed it open.
Eventually I found her and handled her and got her used to me. She seems okay with me now. She licked some peanut butter off my finger. Now she's in a shoebox (open for air and light) sleeping. Very cute. I put some whole-wheat organic bread and three organic honey o's in. I dipped one in peanut butter. The honey o's have no sugar and a tiny bit of honey, so I figured it'd be okay. I put a paper towel down on the bottom of the box for lining, ripped up some toilet paper, and put a little bowl of water in the corner. She seems okay. She doesn't have the TP roll anymore cause it was soaked and it's probably not good for her to get wet. I'm going to get some stuff for her at petco today.
Any suggestions on what to get, and what I can do to improve her living conditions for the time being?

Thanks!

Awww...glad you found her!A domestic mouse is not safe running the streets like that.

You will need a good cage,a 10 gallon tank will do for now.Get some bedding (NOT pine or cedar)...pick up aspen or Carefresh. She will need a wheel, something to chew on,a good quality mouse food, food dishes, water bottle...etc.

Males have obvious testicals,so it is pretty easy to determine whether she is female or not.You mentioned she may be pregnant???Is she getting bigger?

Also mice do better in pairs. So maybe after you have had her for a week or so,maybe you should look into getting her a female friend.

Anything else?

Do you have any pics? I've never seen an orange mouse before.
Also, I've read that mice can be allergic to whole wheat and peanuts, but unless she's gotten sick, I suppose it's okay. Good luck with her!

Yes I am keeping my mouse. I asked my mom and she said okay. Peach is doing fine now, she's a cute happy little mouse. Here are some pictures. They aren't very good, they're awfully blurry, but she's cute as... a peach. :

On her wheel. She loves her wheel.

On my arm, exploring. I'm her playground.

"Aren't I the cutest?"

Thanks, guys! Yes. I love this little girl...

She's ever so adorable. She likes to curl up in my hair from time to time, which worries me because I don't want her to get all tangled up!

Aww she is adorable, I'd love to have a mouse that was that colour. She could be pregnant so just watch her. But another reason for her being chubby is that some colours of mice have a genetic thing which makes them obese. Fawn(Orange) and white mice are the mostly have the gene. So since she's fawn and white it could just be genetic. But if she's pregnant u'll probably get some hopefully wonderful colours out of her.
Kind Regards Rhiannon
