Unhappy RIP, Pepper and how to help Rayray...

Pepper has always been a rat full of URI's and as he got older he lost a lot of weight and no matter how much he ate he was always skinny, even so you could feel all his bones
Yesterday afternoon, I came home for lunch and found him laying on the cage floor. I thought he had passed away, but when I went to check on Rayray, he kept flinching and he was breathing... So I wrapped him up in blankets and warmed him up. He couldn't move the whole of his body, he kept trying and his paws and back legs were flickering, was he parrallised or something? I was massaging him to try and help, but it didn't work. I had to leave him He passed away in my arms an hour later :'( He was over two years old though and I knew he was loosing mobility, bless him.

Now, I'm not sure what to do with Rayray. I'm trying to keep him with me so he isn't lonely, but unfortunatly I can't buy another rat and my other rat, Husky is a lone rat so I can't put them together. To try and make Rayray more comfortable, I've put him in a different cage because the other one is huge and it probably smells like Pepper. Do you know anything I can do to make Rayray more happy? He is pretty miserable and it's killing me seeing him this way

Thanks in advance xxx

Twitching of the limbs and "lurching" is normal. I think pets do that because they're losing consciousness and thus control of their limbs. Or it's their mind telling them to run away and hide before a predator gets them.

I'd say just give Rayray lots of attention.

I'm so sorry. :/

*hugs* I hope Rayray feels better soon. I'm sorry about Pepper. I remember when you got them both.
