Oh I have given mine wet dog food sometimes...they LOVE the stuff.

Just don't give too much, cause it is too rich in protien. But every now and then it is a good treat.

Ha canned dog food..interesting. My dog goes nuts over Taste of the Wild dog food. It's not canned food, but he gets just as excited...wonder how rats and mice would react to it.

Hey, that's great Claire! Sounds like your little rats are coming around for you. That is wonderful news. I have some left over cans of Iaams cat food that I can't use for my cats, can I use that to treat my rats? Does anyone know?

i havent tried wet dog food yet. must try it.

if your up to it, my rats like pig's knuckles from an eaten trotter cooked once stripped to make them nice and crunchy. some people find trotters hard to eat though. the knuckles are just the right size for rats.

My rats love any kind of meat or meat like thing. They love dried and wet cat and dog food. They really really love steak, chicken, eggs, and ham. I think meat is something they eat the fastest. Well, meat and sweets. They love sweet things too. Like Yogies, yogurt, gram-crackers, etc.

Just remember not to give them too much meat.Too much protien can cause skin issues.

I am very careful of that. I have seen breeders who raise rats on just cat or dog food. Although the rats are bigger and fatter, which is good for her when selling them off as whatever she wants, but they are not as healthy. They have breathing problem, greasy fur, bad teeth, etc. That is why I dislike breeders who are in it for the money and do it on a large scale.

Have you guys ever tried fresh yogurt?

A few times a year I buy some fresh strawberry yogurt and I'll grab a big spoonful of it and hold it out for my boys. They will lick the spoon not just clean but dry lol. I remember my boy Bubbles used to grab the spoon with his hands and start chewing at the yogurt. By the time he was done his whiskers were dripping pink.

I can't stand the smell of wet dog food, but we have some. I might try it once and see what they think.
