young rat weight?

my brother has three male rats, all under a year old. I have only had females before, so I am not sure how much they are supposed to weigh. they are all very big, about 12-14 in. when they stand up. I don't have a small scale, but on the normal bathroom scale they weigh about 1.5-2 pounds each. my brother is feeding them less than half the amount recommended on the package, but they still are huge! is this size normal, or do you think they might be getting a little fat?

nope they're fine. male rats are usually a good twice the size of females. as long as they get excercise (i.e. cage is big enough or you let them out lots) then i wouldn't worry. especially if they're all that big, then it's fine and not a food issue i'd think

Ummm...how much is your brother feeding them? And what is he feeding them? Some foods are just a lot of proteins and fats (not good and can lead to obesity). On a proper diet, boys definitely grow bigger, but should be healthier overall. If your brother has them on a seed mix then there's a reason they are so big. Feeding half the recommended amounts on the package worries me.
