chinchilla cold?

My oldest Chin has developed a cold (I think) you can see her nostrlis flare and she wheezes and sneezes! She keeps rubbing her nose to. She is eating and drinking. Should I take her to a vet? Do I need to find a small animal vet for her? This all started yesterday. My other chin is fine. Help! My luck with these two hasn't been great lately!

She might have a respiratory infection. Did you change bedding or anything? I would call your vet and see what she/he says.

I haven't changed anything for them. Im not sure what could have brought it on. Do I take her to the same vet I take my dog to?

You have to call around and find a vet that specializes in chins. Is her nose actually running? (like does it look kinda wet?) Is she in a draft? Is the cage clean?

If I were you, I would clean out the cage now, then call the vet for an appointment. She might be antibiotics.

Her nose is wet. I don't think we have a vet around here that specializes in chins. I bought her from a pet store and they said to call if I have any problems b/c they can contact a chin vet. Should I do that first?

They probably have a list of vets, but you'd be surprised. As popular as "exotic" animals are getting, a lot of vets have knowledge in chinchillas. You could even try looking online. Where do u live?

I found this website (it was the first one I clicked) I just googles chinchilla vets in wisconsin. You might be able to call your dog's vet and see if she knows anything, or if she knows any chin vets in the area.

Sorry I took long to reply, I was cleaning the cage...that site helps! At least I can call someone. The closest vet is Ashland, its about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from here, but she is worth it! I threw away all old chew sticks & mineral chews. I will let you know how she's doing. Thank you for all your help!

Like I said, you can try your vet also, or look in the yellow pages. I told you to clean out your cage in case there was something yucky in there

Mmmm, if you didn't live so far away, I could recommend a vet that I take my chins to. The owner used to work for the zoo, so he specializes in exotics.
