help getting chin to take medicine!

I successfully hid the pill in a raisin twice yesterday for Angel. But today she's figured out that there's something in there that she doesn't like. How do I get her to take the very small pill? Is there an alternative?

A vet gave you a pill to give your chin?

My vet usually gives me a liquid medicine, so I have no clue if my idea would work. Maybe you could crush the pill and mix it in something she would like. For instance, maybe you could use a small amount of apple sauce.

hmmm I never thought of that...that's how we give our horses bute, I will try that.

Yes jade the vet gave me a pill. The vet I wanted to get her into was gone until Monday, so I had to use an alternative one because I didn't want to wait. I was afraid it was a respiratory infection. Besides I don't think liquid medicine would work, Angel and Hayley share the same cage and drink from the same water bottle.

Wow, no wonder she doesn't like it. Baytril is very bitter. I wonder why they didn't refer you to a compounding pharmacy to have it compounded into a liquid? You wouldn't have to mix it with their water, you just give it via syringe. You might call around and see if any pharmacies near you do compounding and if so, ask your vet to call in a prescription to them. Banana flavor usually works well and they take it so much better.

For now or if you don't find one, I'd try the applesauce as mentioned, or even a bit of molasses.

I'd try a syringe or even an eye dropper to make sure she eats it all.

Thanks so much for all your help Jade and Legend! I got her to eat it all last night! She even tried to lick my fingers when it was gone. The best part is her nose is no longer running and she has stopped wheezing. Last night was the first time I didn't hear her wheeze! Im so happy she's ok, I just don't know what I do without her!

Glad to hear she's doing better! Make sure to finish ALL of the medicine though, even though she feels better.
