Talking Quads!!

My girl Dynasty just gave birth to quads today. We have 2 standard sapphire carrier girls, one sapphire girl, and one sapphire boy.

Here they are.

This is Dynasty, the momma.

Here's Kesef, the daddy.

3/4 Girls. Not bad
How's mom doin' with having quads? Do you have a foster mom or do you have to rotate?

Beautiful kits.

It's more common to have one or two it's very possible to have more. It's just harder in a sense because usually you have to rotate them or if you're lucky and have a mom that just gave birth in the last few weeks (the sooner the better because the older original kits would be twice the size as the newborns) or a mom that is just weaning her kits then you can give 'em to her In some cases with larger litters they tend to fight when mom isn't producing or isn't producing enough milk, or a kit just wants a certain nipple that another kit has

There has been a case where a chinny that someone rescued that was pregnant, and she gave birth to 7 kits, one died, but all the others made it through beautifully with rotating and handfeeding So yeah, not as common, but very possible.

Thanks guys. This is my second set of quads born here and I often have triplets born as well. ChinnyMom is right about how many kits they have. I think the highest number I've ever heard of in a litter was twelve back in the 60s or 70s. I don't really known how many of those survived though.

Dynasty's doing well with feeding them. So far, all but one have gained weight and the other is holding steady. I've only seen two squabbles and those happened because a clumsy kit accidently bumped into a sibling while walking by. They've been pretty good about sharing nipples and are even using the ones between her rear legs.

I don't have any other nursing females right now. However, I have quite a few that love to take care of babies even if they don't have any of their own at the time, so if I need to rotate I can always put some of the babies with one of them to be watched. I've also got everything ready in case I need to hand feed or supplement the babies a little bit.

Oh, what a good mama! That's great that most of them have gained, I would have expected a loss on the first day especially with quads. Sound's like they're doing just fine

Keeping fingers crossed that it continues to go this smoothly and you won't have to assist!

Yep, they're continuing to gain so far. The biggest is already up 6 grams from her birthweight. The other two aren't far behind. The little boy finally gained a gram too. My boyfriend says it's a fluke. Hopefully, he's wrong. Anyways here are some more pictures.
