Refuse to take a dust bath

Hi All
I recently became a chinchilla owner. The furball is adorable.
It has been 5 days since I bought him, but he refuse to take a dust bath, even he was scratching himself like crazy.
Is this normal? I am worried he might have skin problems, or he doesn't know how to take a bath (though I thought they naturally know how...)
Thanks!

Try using a different type of container. sometimes they are afraid of the cages

well...it's not all natural, if they didn't see their mom do it they may not know how...you may have to get an open top bowl that is pretty big and help them roll in it...they eventually get the hang of it and will do it on their own

my daughter has 2 + 3 new kits, & they love having their bath when we get them out of an evening...we just bring it out into the hall when we get them all out & they all take it in turns....even the babies are starting to get in now...awwwww!!
