Scented chinchilla dustbath??

So, I went to Petschmo (ok, so it's Petco, but I like the name I call it better) yesterday.

I was cruising around for chin stuff we didn't sell at the store I work at, and low and behold, there's scented chin bath.

WTF? Chinchillas are not stinky animals by nature, so why would they need that? Do they think chins are going to have a hot date and need to smell good?

Not joking at all. There are foods out there, particularly cheap dog foods, that use coloring to cover up cheap ingredients and make it appeal to the consumer. The animals obviously don't care.

Here's an example of another interesting food ingredient, I can only assume used for the same reason:

Vitakraft Chinchilla Pellets

Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein: 14.4% (Min.)
Crude Fat: 2.5% (Min.)
Crude Fiber: 20.5% (Max.)
Ash: 11.0% (Max.)

Calcium: 1.25%
Phosphorus: 0.50%

Ingredients:
Alfalfa Meal, Oat Bran, Sunflower Extract, Corn, Sugar, Wheat Bran, Rape Seed Meal, Sodium Chloride, Calcium Phosphate, 1% Vitamin Premix (Niacin, Folic Acid, Calcium D-Pantothenate), Trace Elements, Fragrance

I wouldn't use it on my chins either.

Fragrance? In chin food?? What's that all about???

That's like animal fat in their food. Yuck! That's like feeding an animal to another animal. Gross!!
