Question Warnings about using yogurt

Lots of us have used yogurt for our chins. During antibiotic use or for weight gain etc. After working with many different types of animals including chinchillas I have discovered a problem .

After your pet has been weaned they no longer produce proper enzymes to break down lactose. Lactose is in yogurt since it is made from milk. The friendly bacteria in yogurt helps to aid in digestion USUALLY but not always. Please pay attention to your chinchilla when using yogurt some cannot tolerate it for more than 1-3 days. The things to look for is extra mucus congestion or not recovering while using antibiotics , constipation- since lactose intolerance can cause the intestinal tract to shut down completely. Also beware of chronic soft stool .

The percent of chins affected by this is small but we need to always be aware of anything that can be a problem for our special pets.
