I know a lot of people are down on Marchall's ferrets, but I personally don't find them to be bad. Yes they sell to labs, but a lot of that testing goes to help cure ferret illnesses , yes they ues artifical lighting.....most breeders do.......they wean at a normal age.......Anyway most of what you hear is unfounded....At one time I had 5 Marchall(other 2 were resued breeder ferrets I never bred them they were in terrible shape)ferrets all were in perfect health, all died of old age(7-9 yrs. actually). Basically if you don't want to adopt and can't find a breeder....purchase a Marchall(from good pet store).
I said earlier that I rescued 2 breeder ferrets that were left at my vets in a hamster cage! eating cat food(I feel only science diet KITTEN formula and quality ferret food mixed is the onlyway to go ---never CAT FOOD!) After a stay w/ my vet , we ate duck soup, cooked liver, lots of ferrovite.....the male(weighting only 1/2 pound) died a week later! I also went to 5 different breeders(long time ago) none of which I found to be good, at all. 3 had ferrets living in feces,1 feed cat food w/ high levels of plant material in it, and lastly ferrets in aquariums!!! After seeing those I decided Marchall's was my way to my furbabies. Also I am a rabbit breeder I sell only breeding stock and pets, but have many other great rabbit people as friends that also sell my breed and "meat rabbits" I find nothing wrong w/ them either.
