ferrets with other pets...

ok, i have my ferret cage, i thought of using it for other pets, but i have really been wanting a ferret, but my only worry is if it would be possible to keep a ferret in a cage in the same room as i keep my rats and mice. the cage is the ferret playhouse from martin's, the spacings of the cage are about an inch...but i have heard that a fettet can squeeze out of something like that? and i have free roaming rats and mice in my room, so i would have to know that my ferret wouldnt be able to escape and eat them...

so is it a good idea to keep a ferret in the same room with rats and mice?

I wouldn't do it if you have free-range rodents. Even if it can't squeeze out what if you forget to close the door or maybe it doesn't close all the way? The ferret would eat your pets .

I wouldn't do it, personally. If you want a ferret I would put it in a different room.

Yeah, or the mice could get in the ferret's cage...i have the cage, but yeah, i could never really let the guy run around in my room...without supervision anyway..

does anyone in this forum have ferrets in the same room with their other pets? just curious

I wouldn't do it either. Even if the ferret couldn't get out, the mice could easily get in. Which you definitely don't want.

i probably wouldn't do it either. i know mine have been known to be little escape artists, and their cage bars are rather close together, (mainly because in learned my lesson when it was just tinker, and he got out of the cage we had been trying out!) and after so long, depending on the type of door on the cage, they can wear out, and if the fert leans on it, it could just open, and then that would be terrible.
