Is Gunny Sick?

Gunny has been scratching a lot lately and now has diareha. I am giving her FerretVite if that makes a difference. Should I take her to the vet? I really need to know if this Ferretvite is just cleaning out her system or if she is sick.

I think a trip to the vet is your best bet. Ferrets can dehydrate quickly, and can be lost to it even faster. So its better to be safe then sorry.

Laxatives will make you poop, why did you give a laxative to a ferret with diarreah? I would say, get him to a vet ASAP, dehydration is going to be a big issue. Especially if he's got diarreah and you gave him a laxative!

I thought she had a hairball and that is why she was throwing up. She is drinking fine and activity level is fine but is scratching and diareaha.

I agree, a vet visit is in order. They will need a stool sample to check for organisms. Of all the symptoms, the throwing up is the one that concerns me. Scratching could just be coat change with the cooler weather. Diarrhea could be from the ferritvite, but if you have stopped giving it, within a day the diarrhea should stop. Ferrets have very quick and short digestive tracts so as soon as solid foods are eaten the stool should be firming up. Vomiting could indicate a hairball, but I would be concerned with some type of blockage. Maybe its not diarrhea, but she is only able to poop a bit around an obstruction? How's her tummy feel?

It feels normal. I haven't felt anything when I pick her up and hold her.
