Natural diets

Does anyone feed their ferrets a natural diet? I have been trying with my ferrets but Tweak keeps urinating on the mouse after Jynx kills it, then neither will eat it. Any suggestions on what I can do?

In my opinion ferrets have become too domesticated and the instinct of a "natural" diet is gone. To them mice are probably more of a toy than anything. I personally do not nor would I even try to get my ferrets to eat mice. Granted by nature they are carnivoirs (sp?) BUT it is something they have never known, and there are far too many risks of illness involved to do such a thing.

Unfortunately I do not have any advice to offer to make them eat that way, but I can wish you good luck.

An aquaintance(sp) of mine feeds her ferrets a raw diet. She is a breeder and starts hers at a pretty young age since ferrets imprint at an early age as to what they consider "food". She's fed them whole chickens, turkeys(the bunch gets their own for thanksgiving), mice, birds, steak... the list goes on. And yes they have had to kill some of them to eat them. Some ferrets will take to it, while others turn their noses up at it..

There is a yahoo group specifically about feeding ferrets a raw diet...not a terribly busy group, but rather's the url

Here's the urls to my friend's ferrets eating their Thanksgiving feasts...

Thank you. I think from now on I will just consider Tweak a Vegen and take him out when when I give Jynx her mouse. At least she wont beat the crap out of him for urinating on her food.
