Question: Cleaning Stinky Ferret Bedding?

Hi,

I don't own a ferret but I thought this would be the place to ask if anywhere.

I just purchased a cage second hand from a former ferret owner that I wanted to refurbish for my new rats. The owner kindly donated all of her ferret hammocks and assorted plushy bedding.

So, my question is, is there an effective way to remove ferret musk from beddings, or will they keep that distinct popcorn smell always?

If they are washable perhaps a vinegar mixed with water might do the trick. The pickle smell will go away as it dries.

Let me know how/if it works!! It worked pretty well in my carpet cleaner instead of the regular cleaning solution.

I just finished washing it with vinegar.

End verdict: It helps some. It went from smelling obnoxiously ferretty, to merely smelling distinctly ferretty.

I'll air it out in the sunlight to see if that helps.

Progress is always good! I'll have to give it a try with some dog bedding that has seen better days.
