Teeth?

The vet I saw on Thursday said that we needed to have Gunny's teeth cleaned because her gums were so red. She's not bleeding when I give her a chew stick (a treat) but they are red. Is this normal? I have not seen any build up of plaque so I wanted a second opinion about her teeth. The original vet that first saw Gunny (Dr. Jarrett from Parker County VETerinary Hospital (GREAT vet)) suggested a new vet.

The vet we saw on Thursday (Ridglea West Animal Hospital) wanted over $300 to clean her teeth, which I KNOW is way too expensive. I am thinking he was just trying to get us since we are young and "don't know better" but I wanted some advice. Are red gums normal for a ferret? I'm going to keep the vet appointment for piece of mind but wanted to know what I should expect.

Thanks!

Christine

she is perfectly healthy! The vet was great and so was his staff! Gunny even liked him because he checked her mouth with ease and then played with her! I am going to go back to him when I need to!
