Tough decision..

I got two ferrets about 4 years ago, and almost two years after I got them, Slinky died of pancreatic tumors. I had my other one, Fred, for about a month, then I got Cooter because Fred didn't like to play anymore, as she was only playful with other ferrets. A few months after I got Cooter, Fred sadly passed away from Insulinoma. I've had Cooter alone for about a year now, and I can't afford another one (vet bills, food, etc.). He seems to enjoy himself fine, but seems kind of.. depressed I should say, without anyone else to play with. I often let him roam the house during the day and play with our chihuahua, but most of the time I don't have time to play with him. He kind of has rule over my room during the day, and is only put up at night in a rather roomy cage. I asked my petsitter how he interacted with her ferrets while I was away, and she said he didn't seem to play much with the others, which is making me think he's okay with being an only ferret. I'm just trying to decide if I should keep him or not.. I try to have the very best for my animals, and I feel bad for keeping him cooped up in my room day after day. What do yall suggest I do? Thanks.

That's a tough call. Our ferret is a single, but we play with her all the time. She has a large cage with funnels and toys and she does play by herself in there also. She likes to play hide and seek with the cat when she is out.
I wish you the best whatever decision you make!
