Exclamation A word of Caution...

With the weatehr getting warmer we need to start worrying about making sure our fur babies don't get sick and the home stays cool enough for them... I thought I would share this article with you as a word of caution:
(please be sure to follow the link below & read the ENTIRE article, this is just the first part of it. The rest of the article tells you how heatstroke should be treated as well as aftercare & prevention.)

Ferrets are extremely prone to heat stress and heatstroke. They will collapse and possibly die if confined at temperatures over 90ºF for 10 minutes. Heatstroke can cause permanent damage to internal organs and should be treated by a veterinarian immediately.
What are the signs of heat stress and heatstroke?

Ferrets who are overheated start to breathe through their mouths. As they become even warmer, heatstroke can occur along with the following signs:

Rapid panting
Bright red tongue
Red or pale gums
Thick, sticky saliva
Depression
Weakness
Dizziness
Vomiting - sometimes with blood
Diarrhea
Shock
Coma

Exclamation

This is very true. . . one of my ferrets had a heat stroke when I was younger. My mom used to put them outside so they could get "fresh air" in the summer. She didn't know any better and I was only about 12. But please be careful because this is a very dangerous time for ferrets.
