Just brought my new Prairie Pup home... any advice?

I just brought home my new prairie dog, any advice on ways to bond with him. He is so scared! I pet him and handle him in the cage but any time I try to take him out he freaks! He is really sweet! Doesn't bite or anything! Just jumps out of my hands.

When I first got my male he did the same thing. After about 2 weeks he started to calm down! He had to check out every part of the house before he started to come back to me. Now when I first get him out he runs all over the place but will come back now to play and cuddle.

Talk to your baby, gently. Keep touching him and keep trying to pick him up so that he'll bond.

It may take a little time. Perhaps the pet shop you bought him from didn't handle him much and he's not used to it. But they usually warm up.

I had a three tier care with a door on all floors. I would put my first one in the top door, open the door on the bottom floor and he would run down the ramps and jump into my hands with a big smile. We played that a lot, they just love it.

My days varies. I'm no longer working due to disabilities. So pretty much anytime is good.

If you can get him in a small room where he can't get out.
Sit there with him and let him come to you.
Make sure to feed him a good diet.
I swear by Brisky pets. They make a Prairie Dog diet.

Yes I like Brisky's too, but there are others that are good exoticnutrion.com sells a nutrition that you can sprinkle on his foods for extra vitamins meant for Prairie Dogs.
