RUT in Prairie Dogs
By neutering a PD you do not remove all of their hormones...as hormones are produced by other parts of their bodies. When he is aggressive towards you is his tailed flared like a bottle brush.
Normally PD's experience RUT during the months of Oct through to March but this is dependent on the country and weather conditions...here in the UK rut is normally experienced during those months. However one of our 8 PD's has gone into rut early this year.
Each situation is unique and needs to be dealt with uniquely. With Gizmo we have removed him from the cage as their is female influence which causes him to be protective of the cage and aggressive. Once isolated in a neutral environment (another room) he has since calmed down. He will remain here till "Rut" is over.
