Exclamation Help! Just brought home SG and shes acting strange!

I just bought my first sugar glider. Its about a 40 minute drive to the petstore where I bought her and we came home with the windows down so she was cool... But she was put into her new cage and she started lying on her back! She was panting, then her breathing slowed. I squirted her a little with a bit of water, and she started drinking it but I have water in the cage. Can this be just shock? Now she's hanging on the side of the cage, but she's not really moving around. I know they're nocturnal, and maybe I'm just overly worried, but if anyone has any advice please share! Thanks!

Sounds like she's really, really freaked out. You should probably just leave her alone and let her calm down.

Definitely give her some time to calm down because she's had a very rough day.

They're social animals that do better in groups, so she's alone and frightened, and most likely came from a pet mill so may even be ill. Do you have a sugar glider vet lined up?

I've got a vet that I interned with who would look at her, but I'm not sure how much experience she has.. but the closest exotic hospital is 50 minutes away, and I don't want to take her there for a few days because I don't want her to stress anymore than need be.

Is there a reason you got only one? Being alone must be really stressful for her .

Yeah, I know they're social but shes the only sugar glider within a 100 mile radius. I'm getting another one asap, but the breeder that supplies the store isn't planning on another till Christmas. She'll get lots of human attention though, and I imagine thats alot better than the petstore.

Just keep in mind that if she IS sick, waiting a few days will probably mean that she then may be too ill to treat.

do you have a snuggle sack for her to climb into, you may want to put her in it and leave her alone.

Yep, I've got a side cage pouch, two hammocks, a pillow, and a sleeping bacg just lying on the bottom, which she loves. She's been eating good, played all night (I got up alot to watch her), and shes showing a little of the aggressiveness the store warned me of, but I'm guessing that means she feels better! And I've got an appointment for Monday. Thanks guys, its greatly appreciated!
