Owen is a Southern Flying Squirrel. He is 6 weeks old now and weighs less than 4 ounces and is 3 inches long in the body and has a 4in. tail. He doesn't know how to glide yet he will learn that slowly as he gets bigger. When he does learn how to glide he will be able to manuever 90degree turns in mid glide and will be able to glide over forty feet at a time. Given he has that much room! My house is small, but I'm sure he'll have enough room!
They are not an import in any way they are native to the United States. They're are two types of Flying Squirrel, the Northern and the Southern, the Northern is quite a bit larger in weight and length.
If anyone is looking or interested in more information I found some with hotbot search engine "Southern Flying Squirrel" is the search I used.
When he starts to glide I'll have to get pics and show everyone. They look like square pieces of fur gliding through the air! It's cute!
