Question Question about Southern Flying Squirrels

My best friend and I are moving in together next winter and are wanting to get a pet. We really like everything we've heard about southern flying squirrels. The one thing is that my friend (and I) were wondering about the bathroom habits of the squirrel. Do they go anywhere and everywhere or do they choose one place and go there? Also, are they messy?
If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks a bunch!

i know nothing of those critters. however with their intelligence, and a little training i'd think you could get them to go potty in one spot

I dont keep southerns but I do have a pair of Eurasian Flyers and as these were not hand reared they are manic!
I have them in a large metal enclosure.
They spread their droppings every where and seem not to be peeing in any particular place so if southerns are like this you might have a bit of a game on your hands!
I'm feeding my guys (bear in mind they are a different species) on my home made rodent mix, monkey nuts, fruit, pumpkin seeds, sweet potato, egg, raisins, a little lean mince and pretty much everything else in my cupboards.

you can potty train southern flying squirrels. just get one of those corner litter pans from petsmart. rodents pick a specific corner of the cage to use as their "bathroom" so just observe the little guy/girl and place the litter pan in the corner they decide on using. put a food bowl, water bottle, and bed in the remaining corners, because they won't ruin where they sleep or eat.
