Black stuff in bunny fur

I've tried finding anything I can regarding this, but no luck.

Anyways, in the last couple days i've noticed black stuff in my bunny's fur. It looks sort of like dander, except it's somewhat hard and thicker. Basically, it looks like black sand but slightly larger. Anyways, it doesn't seem to bother him, but I have no idea what it is so I'm worried. He's a golden brown color and 2 years, and this is the first I've ever seen this while brushing him.

Does anyone have any idea what this is or if I should be worried? He's up for a vet visit in a few weeks, but i'm wondering if I should wait til then or if this needs attention now.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like flea dirt. Run a flea comb over him and see what you find, or go through his fur. He might have fleas. If you find anything, go to the vet and he/she can give your bun a flea treatment suitable for him. Hope it goes well.

http://www.vet.bc.ca/site/view/54272_Fleadetection.pml there is a link.. My vet told me to shake the suspected flea dirt onto a piece of kleenex and wet it and rub it a bit. If it turns browny red, it is flea poo! Its the fleas poopin out the blood they mercilessly sucked from your animals body. Oh, the horror!

Sounds like flea dirt to me too. Make sure to consult the vet in regards to how to treat him. Bunnies can only take certain products - others are extremely dangerous for them.
