I was lying on my side, spending some
quality time bonding with my female,
spayed, Flemish Giant this weekend.
We sometimes call her the b-word--she
can get really nasty with her biting.
However, she was not the b-word today.
She's spayed, and about 8 months old.
We've been trying to get her to bond with
a 6 month old, fixed male, also a Flemish
Giant. They have not bonded after about
1.5 months. I know I may have a long time
ahead of me before that bond establishes
itself. That's not the reason for this post--
Her head was pointed toward my face,
and she was paying attention to me.
- I stroked her on her nose for a
- I stroked the sides of her
mouth--both sides--for a few
- I ran my hand over the length of
her body, for a few minutes.
- I ran my fingers in the space
between the ears and the neck
for a few minutes.
- Yes, she seemed to like it.
Good signs I'm making progress:
- She started grooming the hair on
- She gave me one or two barely
noticeable nips on my arm.
- She licked my elbow.
- She licked my nose.
Here's what I'm unsure of.
After about 10-12 minutes of petting her,
she came to me, and started pawing on
my chest and arm for 5-10 seconds, sort
of like a rabbit might do if digging in a litter
box or digging outside. I can't make heads
or tails on the good-or-the-bad of the behavior.
Should I dig
back at her or on her? LOL
Should I allow it to continue?
Should I make a loud noise to scare her
and stop it?
Anyone? Beuhler? Anyone? Anyone? :-)
Thanks in advance,
