I had heard that they should get timothy or alfalfa. I don't know if other types are as good for them.

Oat hay is pretty close to timathy in regards to fiber content. Timathy hay has a little less protien, and oat hay has a bit more calcuim (but not anywhere near as much as alfalfa does). You should be fine feeding him unlimed oat hay - but I would mix some timathy in with it.

There are actually many diffrent kinds of hay, most of which are fine to feed. Timathy hay seems to be the one thats recommended most, but some rabbits don't like it, and it's better for them to get another kind then none at all. Grass hays, such as timothy, brome grass, orchard grass, marsh hay, and oat hay are better for bunnies then legume hays, such as clover and alfalfa.

Yup, oat hay is perfectly fine . I actually prefer to switch around hays sometimes and that's one I like to feed.

The others I feed are timothy, brome, orchard/meadow grass, and herb mixed.
