might be rescueing an angora

I heard that someone near by had a white angora rabbit in a small hutch. It is a kids rabbit (the kid is 5) and he is mean to it. He has been yanking its fur out through the bars of the cage. The little boys parents are trying to find the rabbit a new home because they feel sorry for it.

I think I am going to take it. I have tried to bond Ryo with another rabbit for 6 months and failed miserably. And then again with another rabbit and Ryo was so stressed she wouldnt do anything other than try to find away to the other rabbits cage to fight it through the bars. She wouldnt even eat. So I am thinking that she cannot be bonded. That means I will not be keeping this angora.

however I figure I can get it out of that situation, get it altered (oh and shaved, its suppose to be a solid mat) and then take it to our no kill shelter.

That's nice of you to want to help it out

Just because Ryo didn't bond to one rabbit doesn't mean she'll never be able to bond to one. Rabbits are like humans in that sometimes two of them just don't get along for whatever reason. That doesn't mean they will never get along with any other rabbit. You could try Ryo with the angora and see how it goes before you bring it to a shelter.

I wouldn't bring it to a normal cat/dog shelter if you can help it. Look for rabbit shelter or rescues in your area. Normal shelters are usually pretty loud and being surrounded by barking dogs and cats can be stressful on a rabbit. That can make them more reserved and shy and harder to adopt out.

Good luck!

Good luck and it's great that you're helping the bunny . Angoras are amazing rabbits, they have the best personalities .

this is a really great story, and hopefully a new beginning for this rabbit. alot of people would just say 'poor thing' or feel bad for it. but only a true animal lover would step up and do the right thing. good luck!
