My new boy

I adopted this little Harlequin from the Humane Society, to spend time in a nursing home. He was found as a stray, and has more growing to do. So far the residents really love him, and he is working out great. We named him Harley.

What a cutie! Love the name!
How is he doing with the nursing home? It takes a special bunny to be OK with being pet, carried around, transported ect.

I have a cage on wheels and a play pen at the home. Only the Aides are allowed to pick him up and hold him so that the residents can pet him. I don't trust him to sit in laps yet. Some of the residents move chairs around the play pen and just sit and watch him, and that puts a smile on their faces. One woman loves dogs, and she thinks he is a dog, no matter how many times we tell her that he is a rabbit. Seeing Harley brightens up her whole day.

Aww, bless that woman! I'd be iffy about a rabbit as a therapeutic aide but it brings happiness and joy to the forgotten souls in the home. Harley will most likely get used to it (I hope!!) Just watch for signs of distress and fear! Im sure its a nice and welcome alternative to therapy dogs and horses.

LOL, what ever makes her happy I guess! Harley sounds like such a sweetie! Smudge would never let me do that to him.

Harley is more an animal visitor than a therapy pet. I don't allow him to be handled by the residents, other than petting. He isn't there all the time, I switch him off with another rabbit, and the rabbit goes home with me on my days off. It is called "volunteer work".

Still it's therapy as well!! You volunteer to go see these people and you bring a bunny! So if they get to touch and pet Harley then it's therapy hun I bet it reeeeaaalllly makes their day to see the bunny- even that lady who's convinced he's a dog!
