Poor Charlie

When Caesar died yesterday, Charlie got really depressed. We took her to the vet to see if she was okay, since we don't know what Caesar died from, and she's healthy. When I put her back in the cage, she started running around franitcally sniffing every corner and wouldn't even eat her favorite treat. I feel so bad for her, I bought her a new toy to distract her. It's one of those roll hide nest things. It's like a round tunnel, but I haven't put it in yet. My mom and dad had been feeding her lately, since I can't make myself go to the cage. What happens next? Does she get really depressed or does she forget about her buddy?
If we get her a new friend it will be in the spring, because we don't want to put another bunny outside that isn't used to it. And Charlie will probably be coming inside when it gets cold next fall. We don't want to confuse her even more by putting her inside now.

Well, when we took Mo back and adopted Rusty, Sonora didn't seem depressed. But that might have been because Mo was really mean to her, so maybe she was glad he was gone.

Charlie will probably miss Ceasar since they were bonded. Give her lots of extra love. I'm sure she will adjust.

I have always read that rabbits can get quite depressed when they lose their friend. When Rodger died I let Shadow see him, she sniffed all around him and chinned him all over and she was sad but she knew he was dead. The best thing I would do is give charlie lots of loving. she'll be feeling pretty depressed and confused. Hopefully she will have realised that Ceaser was going to die and will return to normal soon.

Too lazy to even think of a siggy

Thanks for the support guys. Charlie still is confused and always waits for Caesar to tell her it's okay to come to the door. But he's not there anymore. She's getting better now, and actually eats her treats again.

That is great to hear that she is eating again. I know that when my G. shepard dog, died, my black lab didn't eat for q uite awhile. Neither did I lol. I am one that gives my all to my pets.

I do too, I think everyone here on PT does, and that is why it is so hard to lose a pet. Caesar wasn't just a bunny, he was my baby. I think everyone here feels like that when they lose a beloved fur baby, and it's hard, but it shows we care.

Red face

Natalie just give Charlie lots of hugs and cuddles. Getting her a new friend, like a bunny or even a guinea pig, is a good idea, when the time is right!
