Question Went to the vet, have one question.

I found a great Vet on my first try. Dr. ric is awesome

My little boy Oliver is about 3-4 months, and very healthy. He weighed in at 1lb 10.5oz.

Ears, belly, ear and heart palpations all sounded/looked good.

I asked about him sneezing. We have only had him one day and he has been sneezing a lot. Dr. Ric said that upper respitory infections are common in rabbits and as a pre caution he gave me Tribrissen liquid to give to Oliver twice a day at 3mg eat time.

I haven't found anything bad about Tribrissen for rabbits but wanted to double check. I'm being paranoid.

Tabatha is on Baytril. I have never heard of Tribrissen. But you are right being cautious. I have heard that many anitbiotics can kill rabbits. I think the problem is that the antibiotic can destroy the good gut flora. I also supplement Tabby with Benebac. I am not sure she needs it but it makes me feel better and her vet said it was fine.

Tribissen- I have to give that twice a day to my bunny that was really sick. It's to help with her fever and everything else. My vet told me it's like Aspirin for rabbits

It should be safe but like Kathydip said, you may want to give a probiotic in between doses. Bene-bac, acidopholis, or live active culture yogurt would be best. Your bunny may stop eating while on antibiotics if you don't use a probiotic. You can encourage him to eat by dribbling fresh squeezed pineapple juice on his pellets and hay. Small amount though and it has to be just the juice from a whole pineapple, not the juice from a carton or can.

I buy a whole pineapple and cut it into little pieces I freeze it in little baggies in servings that should last about a week. Then I just take them out of the freezer when I need them. I give her the pieces of pineapple. I am not really sure if such a little guy can have actual pineapple but you could always save the juice and freeze the pineapple pieces for yourself. They are pretty good frozen on a hot summer day! Tabatha never minds sharing with me.

Olie has been doing great with the meds. Takes it like a champ, its like candy to him.

Sneezing has calmed down a lot. Hes eating and drinking water like normal.

aloha
anitbiotics are terrible for rabbits, they kill them and killed mine. the sneezing is called "snuffles" my rabbit has it and has lived with it successfully for years here in hawaii. I use the rabbitmedicinechest.com for natural medicines especially for the snuffles. The have a great concentration used to spray the cage where the rabbit has urinated, the bacteria from the urine causes the problems. You need Terra Clense and Systemejuv.

I am happy to hear Oliver is feeling better. I know Tabatha looks for her meds. She knows the routine now. First thing in the morning I get up and sweep up her poopies then she gets her Metacam and after that she waits for the benebac b/c she knows its coming next. Then some cuddle time followed by me getting myself together. I go downstairs make her salad and get her Baytril. When I come back up she knows it's baytril time. She loves that too! Often I have to pull the syringes out of her mouth b/c she is looking for more! She is a silly girl.

I know you do have to be careful about what you give them that is why you should always have a rabbit savvy vet. Never go to a vet that only sees them sometimes.

Betts - I am so sorry for your loss.

Antibiotics Saved my bunny. You have to go to a vet that know what she/he is doing. My bunny had HIGH fever and her kidneys were failing and if it weren't of the antibiotics she wouldn't be here

My bunny loved all the meds i gave her. Probably cause she knew the faster she took them, the earlier she got her piece of banana

They certainly love bananas don't they?

I should stop on the way home and pick up more bananas - but I have to make sure there are enough for her "dad" b/c he hogs them all up!

i keep my hubby's bananas separate from my buns'... and my husband get the bananas that the buns won't touch

they're so picky that they won't eat a barely browned banana... they love them green... whatever!

Okay, so I've got a mischevious husband and a few buns...

Oh I can give them to her when they are green? I didn't know that. The ones I bought yesterday are a bit green and I was holding off. I will be sure to give her some tonight.
She is a silly bunny - she likes it when I hold the banana for her. So I eat most of it and then I cut the peel back and hold it for her so she can gobble it down.
