I had an uspayed rescue dog that had this problem. One vet thought it was related to hormones. I had the dog spayed, and her behavior didn't change. I think once a habit gets started, it is hard to break. It could be that she got bored one day and found this entertaining. If she drinks lots of water, she could diabetic, and perhaps sugar comes out in her pee, making it sweet. (I'm just guessing) I also fostered rabbits that picked up the habit of drinking a lot of water out of boredom.

Hmm thats sad. I'd like to think they're not bored. They dont have tiny cages, but large pens and they're filled with boxes and toys and blankies and stuff. I'd hate to bore Akina to drink her own pee.....

I had a rat who would drink pee too. Maybe some animals just develop a taste for it?

I'd possibly get her tested for diabetes, as it does cause the urine to become very sweet.

Remember you mentioned to me how she drinks all the time? If she drinks all the time and is now drinking her pee,it might be a good idea to be tested for diabetes. She is overweight too.

I am sorry you have all of these issues with Akina!

Yeah, mini-rexes are plumper generally. She can at least tuck under to eat her Cecal pooies. That's super imprtant Plus when I get her out, she don't run around and flip and twist and go nuts like Acacia...

UPDATION
Went back to the vet tonight but her regular doctor is out of the country- so she seen a new doctor. Didnt like how rough he was checking her teeth!! He put her on Baytril again for her infection and some ointment for her eye which is still pretty bad. Also, I mentioned the diabetes test thing and once he checked her temperature he said it was high so her drinking her pee and other strange habits are caused by her infection? He didnt talk much so this offended me a little for all the questions I asked...Cant wait for Toor to come back, he was super nice and treated my babies really well!! Ill even treat him to checking Acacia up since it was over a year since her beauty mishap
