Where's the peace of mind?

So, yesterday morning i noticed Acacia's face was swollen on the left side thought "oh my,time to keep open eyes to everything now" in a code red terror-went to work..came home and went to give veggie supper and realized she hadnt eaten any of her dry food throughout the day-thought "OH MY GOSH! SERIOUS JUNK , FIND THE CRITICAL CARE MEDS,GET FOOD INTO THIS DEVIL!!" had my sister help me give her '8.5 Critical Care' but the problem lay in her inability to eat.her mouth was simply too swollen to eat,so i think "dang, vet's in order tomorrow..." then all night i have a hard time sleeping thinking about she's doin, and how afraid she must be.

i immediatly blamed Illusion, the naughty cat,for picking at her a little too rough.and i banned both cats from the spare rooms altogether.today at work i was in serious break down mode-how the heck will i afford this one? what if she dont make it? how is she? and i totally could not focus at all on work,Lisa called me around 230 saying Acacia was shaking and tilting her head-so i got out of work as soon as i could...

now ill get to the point...

Where the heck were the vets through this? i called my regular vet and its understandable that both were unavailable on such short notice but i called all vets in the st.john's area and all were totally booked-only after explaining my situation would the torbay clinic accept to squeeze her in on a new patient,semi-emergency appointment.i feel grateful for them and he did an awesome job on her-i was so scared i wouldnt be able to find a rabbit vet on emergency, because you never know when something will arise-my regular vet, the one im familair with was unable to see my pet.as a result i had to spend 35$ (both ways combined) on taxi's to get all the way to the end of the city so my baby would be ok. to be honest im disappointed,i might see him from now on if i can work out the bus schedule.

Acacia had a steroid shot and baytril shot at the vet and he sent us home with more baytril and pedia-pet?? or something like that..and wants to see her again on thursday to check the swelling to get a look at her teeth,we still dont know if its caused by her teeth -which i thought were pretty good- or from when she got out of her pen the other morning and got at Akina's pen he thinks they might have fighted....*fingers crossed*

whats your thoughts on having regular vets? from now on ill have at least 2 different clinics in mind for my pets.

I hope she is feeling better really soon.
I find it difficult to find really good bunny vets that have emergency hours. I think the only one in this area is University of Penn - downtown. I LOVE my vet and I am sure they would make time for any of my buns as long as I called before they closed.
It probably is a really good idea to find another bunny vet - just in case.
Cats and dogs are so much easier to find vets for.

mommy to
Tyler - kitty
Oscar - water turtle
Bean - kitty
Frankie - dachshund
Belle - dachshund
Oliver - bunny
Ophelia - bunny
Penelope - bunny
Teddy - bunny -ok I have given up on 4 of a kind and am willing to settle for 2 pairs.
8 fishes - RIP Little Guy and Greta
and Tabatha - October 11, 2006 - rest in peace our sweet angel bunny

thanks guys.

she's getting more energy anyway, today she sprinted to her hiding spot when the dog was chasing the cat, good sign for her.and shes not tilting her head anymore so i think shes not in as much pain.also a good thing. but no hoorahs yet, she'll stay still while i pet her and wont struggle against getting picked up and wont fight off meds,so im keeping my eye on her for that-its so unlike her to be cuddled!!

AWH poor Akina, you seen Carmen last time right ((Asian girl)) she is good but she will do excessive things when not needed like even xrays. She is very through! She really nice as well.

Glad Akina is doing better! And cute pics!

Oh Dr.Lo! I don't like her when it comes to small animals. She is good for cats, she seen Hatchet...but once Dr.Hillier wasn't there and I had to see her with my rat that had an RI and she tried to make me get x-rays for the ratty, which DIDN'T need them and she asked me if my rat was throwing up - RATS DON'T/CAN'T THROW UP! I had to INFORM HER about rats...hehe.

Anyway Amanda actually went to a vet at Torbay Road.I wanna see if he see's rats too...if he does and is any good,I may switch vets.

he was good- i must say and almost immediatly pin pointed a cause to her problem-fight with another bunny(akina and yes they got into it prior) or tooth probs.instead of fooling around with x-rays and whatever.and yes,i had Dr.Lo when i took Akina in for her abscess and she wanted to give x-ray almost immediatly.oh well, all vets do their own thing-its what we pay them for.that vet waiting area is HUGE too! jeez,
