Exclamation worried about bunny

I woke up this morning, & was horrified to find sera's cage completely covered w/ huge tufts of fur everywhere! They were held together by skin or something. Sera didn't appear to be bleeding anywhere though, & she greeted me anxiously - as usual. She appeared to be her normal self, other than the fur covering her cage. She was secured in her cage all night, so I don't know what could have happened to her, & she never made any noise. Has anybody heard of this before, or have any idea what might have happened to her?

Is she bored? Animals sometimes pull their own fur out when bored, depressed etc..

Probably is bored

She probably is bored, I will have to see what I can figure out for her. Thank you so much for your reply, I never would have thought of that. Your bunnies are absolutely adorable by the way!

How old is she? Another possiblity is that she was experiencing false pregnancy. Bored, or sometimes just broody females, often go through false pregnancy. In preparation for kindling (giving birth), females will line a nest with their own fur, as baby bunnies are unable to regulate their body heat and need to stay warm.

I agree with Velvetrabbit - that's what I'd suggest. I've had two female bunnies (both at the time were not spayed) & both had phantom pregnancies & made nests. It's not a wise option to let them continue this practice as they end up ingesting a lot of fur (if you've ever seen how much they pull out with their mouths, you'd be amazed!). If they get interrupted or scared at the time, they can swallow it.
