i just got back from Flea land. its a huge flea market in south central kentucky.
and i did not come back happy. i came back sick at my stomach and outraged.
there was a booth that a couple were setting up. they were taking out small 10 gallon tanks of baby nile, savanah, and water monitors. and they had about 7 igunanas, all babies. they also had jacksons camillions. all of the pets there had awful color and the camillion was very dehydrated. as the couple was putting down a ten gallon tank of about 5 nile montior babies i seen her shake the tank and say to the other person "does it look alive to you"
my mouth droped! my fist clenched. i honestly was about to hit her in the jaw. i never felt so sick at my stomach. hubby pulled me away becuase he knew i was about to start something.
people will buy these on impulse. if they wanted a pet they would go to a pet store. i bet many people dont know that montior lizards can get 5-7 foot and paticularly niles are very aggressive and dangerous if you dont know what you are doing, and not to mention iguanas get huge too.
just scares me to think of how many people went home with a sick lizard, not knowing they will get huge. and if someone bought that camillion i just know its dead now!! but those monitor lizards are not something that should be tooken lightly. i love them, i have great respect for them, but they are not good pets! i honestly dont even think they should be sold as pets. much less at a flea market.
i will not let this rest. i will do something, i have to stop this!!
